How can you make a difference to the environment?

Concerns over the environment have been steadily increasing for some time now. And, as more people recognise the benefits of going green, there has been a shift in the way many approach life. From recycling initiatives and pledges to cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, to companies adopting environmental policies, the whole world seems to be acknowledging the need for a greener planet. As an individual, though, it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. Indeed, how easy is it to actually adopt a greener approach and what are the benefits of doing so? Take cars, for instance. Many people use theirs on a daily basis, in order to get to work, take the children to school or to ferry the weekly shopping home.
